May 31st is World No Tobacco Day. A day that is designated to call to attention the negative and potentially life altering effects of tobacco in all its forms. This year the World Health Organization has launched a campaign with the theme “Don’t Let Tobacco Take Your Breath Away.” The goal of the campaign is to educate people of the world on the harmful effect that smoking and secondhand smoke has on the lungs. It wants to bring awareness to such things as lung cancer, COPD, respiratory infections, effects of exposure to children in-utero, and much more.¹
Happy National Emergency Medical Services Week! Before we delve into the reasoning behind this national celebration, we’ll explore what Emergency Medical Services are. So, what is an Emergency Medical Service? Emergency Medical Services, more commonly known as EMS, is a system that provides emergency medical care. Once it is activated by an incident that causes serious illness or injury, the focus of EMS is emergency medical care of the patient(s). (source) President Gerald Ford authorized national EMS week in 1974, intending to honor EMS practitioners and the services they provide to the American people.

A holiday created by Lockheed Martin to encourage interest and celebration of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) subjects.
